Stahalamora

Name of Artist/Band?

Stahalamora

How long have you been interested in music?

My interest in music began when I was 3, when I started playing the piano. At age 6, I was already performing in my local church, being one of the youngest members of the choir back then. Several years and piano classes later, I decided to professionally train in Opera which helped shape the kind of music I am interested in doing today.

How long do you see yourself making music?

For as long as I can. I don’t think I will ever get tired of making music. It ins’t just work for me. It is more of a passion.

What is your music background?

Growing up being exposed to so much diverse music around me, in Mumbai with the bustle of Bollywood all around me I developed a unique ability to appreciate various kinds of music and incorporate that into all the music I do. As a child, most of my time was spent in solitude and I think that solitude gave me a chance to entirely understand what I wanted, what I liked and what music would befit my perfect world.

Why do/did you want to record and release your own music?

When I was growing up, I found it very difficult to get people to understand me. My thoughts always seemed too far out and I can’t really blame them for that. I want to record and release my music because I want to express to the world the ideologies I have in my head; To let others experience a bit of the fantasy I create in my head. My mind is a wonderful place, and I feel through music, I can create a wonderful space for all who want to listen and understand my music.

What are your songs about?

I don’t think I have written about one specific thing all through and I doubt I will ever do that. I believe the world has so much to offer, so many things to talk about and so many experiences to share, it would be a pity to just isolate one particular topic and sing about that only.

In my music, I would say I like covering themes dealing with the unknown entities that exist around us, which inspired the song ‘The Unknown’. Besides that, I like including different theories of the mind and human consciousness, and as well as different emotions humans face. In fact, up till now, a large chunk of my songs has mainly been about the human mind and all the mental demons we face everyday.

Do you write your own songs?

Of course I write my own songs. One of the main reasons I decided to pursue music was because I wanted to express my mind and let out my thoughts for the world to read. I don’t have a particular process of song writing. Ideas and tunes usually just pop up in my head at the random-est of moments and if I really like the idea that has just popped up, I work on it in my own time. I believe in always writing what in believe in.

Who are your musical influences?

My main musical influences would have to be DJ Okawari, Nujabes, Florence + The Machine, Varien and London Grammar.

How do you describe your music to people?

My music is mainly electronic experimental with a touch of classical elements.

What are your immediate music career goals? (Next 1 to 3 years.)

Well, since I am off to music school this year, right now, my main focus is to just produce some really good music for people to listen to. I hope more and more people will hop onto this train that leads to the magical lands where my music can take them.

What live performance experience have you had?

I was actually part of one of India’s biggest Musical Theatre Productions: “Jesus Christ Superstar” . It was directed by Alyque Padamsee who is one of India’s biggest and most renowned theatre directors.

Besides that, I have been in multiple other plays and musicals as theatre is one of my most loved passions.

Aside from theatre, I have and keep singing for various events and shows across Mumbai.

Have you recorded any previous CDs or posted any audio files on the Internet? what are they called? and where?

Most of my music which i have recorded is under the name “Stahalamora” on Soundcloud https://soundcloud.com/stahalamora

what are you listening to right now?
